Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 Rumors: Release Date, Specs, Carriers

galaxynotepro

Samsung is known for its super-sized 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 and 6.3 inch Galaxy Mega, but now the Korean electronics giant may be getting into the oversized tablet game. The company is rumored to launch a 12.2-inch version of its Galaxy Note slate known as the Galaxy Note Pro, which could be revealed as early as next week at CES 2014. Samsung may already have plans to bring this purported 12-inch Note to one major U.S. carrier, and here’s a look at what we should expect from Samsung’s largest slate yet.

Carrier Availability

AT&T is likely to be the first carrier to sell the Galaxy Note Pro, according to a new tip from Twitter leakster @evleaks. The model number for AT&T’s edition of the Note Pro is said to be SM-P907A, which is slightly different than other leaked model numbers ending in P900 and P905.

Design

The 12.2-inch tablet could measure 14.1 x 11.6 x 8 inches and weigh 1.7 pounds according to ZDNet Korea, which is quite a bit heavier than the 1.2-pound Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014). There’s no word on whether or not the Note Pro will sport the same faux leather stitched back as its smaller sibling, but recent reports have suggested Samsung may bring this design to other devices such as laptops.

Display

Samsung is likely to outfit the Note Pro with a 2560 x 1500 resolution display, according to an FCC filing from November. This would make sense given that the Note Pro is said to be larger version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) tablet, which features the same display resolution.

Processor and Storage

The 12.2-inch Note tablet could come with Samsung’s Exynos 5 octa-core processor under the hood, as Unwired View  writes. However, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this tech only available in an international version of the slate just as with the Galaxy S4. Other rumors suggest the slate will run on a 2.4-GHz processor, but no other information has been specified. The upcoming addition to the Note family may also come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

Battery Capacity

According to reportedly leaked specs, the Note Pro will run on a 9.500 mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 8,220 mAh battery that powers the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014).

Android Version

When Samsung releases the Note Pro, it’s expected to come with the latest version of Android out of the box. Unwired View reports that the 12.2-inch rumored tablet will launch with Android 4.4 KitKat, which brings a host of improvements over Jelly Bean including the ability to integrate SMS with Google Hangouts, printing support at the OS level, and a default Web engine based on Chromium.

Release Date

Samsung is likely to release the Galaxy Note Pro in the first quarter of 2014, if  ZDNet Korea’s tips prove accurate. This means we may see an announcement at next week’s CES in Las Vegas or in Barcelona during February’s Mobile World Congress.
