May 13th, 2008 by Jeffrey L. Wilson
In our mini-review of the Acer Aspire 8920G a few days ago, we mentioned we were impressed with the machine’s gorgeous Gemstone Blue design, Media Console touch controls, and powerful 5.1 CineSurround audio, but many wondered how it would fare under more rigorous testing.
The results are in. We put the Acer Aspire 8920 through the paces, and it emerged as one of the best notebooks of 2008. Drooling yet? Check out the full review of the Acer Aspsire 8920G.

I purchased the 8920G and love it. One problem, I cant play BLU RAY movies. Do I need certain software like WINDVD to be able to play BLU RAY movies

Hi, I have the same problem. My 8920G wont play BLU RAY movies (it has no problem playing full HD format, like the HD demo disc etc).
When I insert the disc it starts playing, but when it reaches the DVD menu i cant go on, all the options are “dead”, exept the ones that that has to do with going back (stop/exit/back etc), they work and have a rollover effect… Also the background animation and music works …
Anyone know what the problem can be?

I had this problem with mine (as did a lot of users of Acer Blu-ray machines in Decembr 08, see http://www.theacerguy.com/forum/topic/acer-arcade-deluxe-not-playing-blu-ray-discs
– turned out to be a faulty Acer Arcade Deluxe update – ran eRecovery and re-installed the factory install of Arcade Deluxe and it’s now working fine.
To answer the 1st question about what software, Acer Arcade Deluxe should be installed to run the Blu-rays or at least CyberLink PowerCinema.
