Forget the NCAA: LAPTOP Announces Netbook Madness

March 17th, 2009 by Joanna Stern

Starting today, the best college basketball teams in the country will compete in the largest annual illegal-gambling and productivity-killing event known as the  NCAA Tournament. We at LAPTOP would be remiss to ignore it, but everyone’s doing a basketball bracket these days. So we thought, let’s combine our expertise in netbooks with this national tradition! Don’t the netbooks deserve to fight it out on the courts, too?

Here’s how it works. We have assembled the 16 best netbooks on the market in the brackets above and seeded them. All the games will be played during the next 16 days (lasting the length of the real NCAA Tournament, from March 17 through April 6). Each game will have its own post, and you, dear readers, will vote on the which of the two netbooks in a given game should win in a simple poll. The next day we will post the winner of the previous day’s game and the game for the day. Competitors will get whittled down to the final four, ending with a championship game. But in order for it all to work, we need you to figure out what netbook should hold the title.

We encourage you all to print out your own (you can download the PDF here) and keep track. And hey, if you want to start an office pool with a little under-the-table wagers, we won’t discourage you. Just don’t tell us, and be sure to keep checking back to see which netbooks have fallen out of the running and which have moved to the next round.

The first game will take place on March 18. Which netbook will get to cut down the … Net? Happy playing!

I’ll have to admit that the Negroponte Regional seems to be the more competitive league.
    Anyways, Samsung NC10 FTW! ;)

  2. Jez - Samsung Netbook Community Says:

NC10 versus the NC20 in the final!

  3. Offbow Says:

    100% nc10 (sammy) FTW

    Samsung NC10 gets my vote!

  5. Logan Says:

    Winner! NC10 without a doubt!

  6. Tim Says:

With only a hint of complete and utter bias I’ll say Samsung NC20 has got the size for dominating the court, the performance to go all the way to the finals, the resolution to be a top contender for the crown!

  7. Geoff Says:

    NC10 – No Contest 10/10

  8. Louis Says:

I’m thinking the Eee 1000HE will win out for its slightly better hardware and significantly better value.

  9. NBN Says:

My sleeper pick- the Aspire One AOD-150

  10. Orb Says:

Well close between the Asus 1000HE but went with the Samsung NC10.
Better build and sleek compared to the more blocky and lesser build quality of the 1000HE

So Samsung NC10 by a Nose!

  11. Ryan Says:

the asus 1002ha the best one with the fewest comprimises. cause the NC10 is good but the touch pad is way too small.

  12. Izak Says:

    I vote for the NC10!

  13. Carlys Says:

The EEE PC 1000HE is the ONE and Only. With N280 the first step buy Asus.

  14. Ivan Says:

    NC10 all the way!

  15. #99 Says:

    GO SAMMY, GO SAMMY!

  17. stradivariuus Says:

Can´t vote for the Samsung NC10 simply because in my country there aren´t no Samsung laptops, Netbooks, etc. No Samsung computers of any kind. I have to go for the Asus Eee PC 1000HE and I really love it…

  18. Mark Says:

netbooks have pathetic performances so they suck..
