We have been waiting for a company to release some decent cases for our mini-notebooks so we didn’t have to keep using portable DVD player cases (which work pretty well) or the included sleeves. Belkin finally gave us what we needed this morning. The company announced a line of “laptop cases and travel mice for ASUS Eee PC mini laptops.” Of course, these cases and mice can be used with any of the mini-notebooks of which we are so fond. Available at Target stores starting in September, Belkin offers a slew of nice-looking cases. Each of the cases will come in assorted colors, including Jetset Red (red), Plum Berry (magenta), Techno Blue (blue), and black. Here is the lowdown: Mini Laptop Quilted Case ($19.99) This case fits 7-inch mini-notebooks and is made of a quilted texture and durable polyester. I guess those that have held onto their Eee PC 701s will be loving this one. Mini Laptop Carrying Case ($24.99) This neoprene case looks a bit bigger and includes a detachable shoulder strap, and exterior pockets give extra storage room for accessories. We are still waiting to hear from Belkin if this will fit 8.9-inch mini-notebooks, but we assume the stretchy neoprene will be able to fit a 8.9er. We doubt that it will nicely fit a 10-inch Wind or Eee PC 1000.
Update: Our contact at Belkin tells us the maxium dimensions that the cases will support is 8.86 x 6.30 x 1.2-inches. According to our calculations, that isn’t going to fit an 8.9-inch system like the Aspire One, HP Mini-Note or the Eee PC 901.
Neoprene Sleeve ($12.99) If you ask me, this is the perfect mini-notebook case. This sleeve protects the notebook from scratches while inside your bag. Belkin also released a wireless travel mouse ($19.99) which will sure beat using the uncomfortable trackbar on the Eee PC 901 and 1000H. It features a micro switch, mechanical scrolling wheel with depressing function. The retractable mouse ($14.99) plugs right into your mini-note but sports a retractable cable so the cords stay untangled when it’s not plugged in.
