Eye-Fi Announces Partnership With MobileMe, A La Carte Features
September 23rd, 2008 by Dana Wollman
Eye-Fi, the company behind our Editors’ Choice winning SD card that lends wireless uploading capability to any camera with an SD slot, made a bunch of announcements today. First, the company is promising to double its upload speeds, even for existing card owners.
Another perk for current customers: beginning October 5th, users can add selected advanced features, a la carte, and subscribe to them on an annual basis. So, if you don’t feel like shelling out for an Eye-Fi Explore ($79.99) up front (let alone upgrading), you can add geotagging capabilities for $14.99 a year. Adding Web sharing to the Eye-Fi Home card costs $9.99, and adding Wayport hotspot access to an Eye-Fi Share card costs $14.99 a year.
On the Web integration front, users can now upload photos to MobileMe galleries or AdoramaPix. From the beginning, Eye-Fi has been integrated with a plethora of popular photo sharing sites, including Facebook, Flickr, and Picasa, among others.
The company also announced that Eye-Fi will soon be available in Japan and will hit Canada by the end of the year. In addition to current retail channels, it will now be on sale in Best Buy as well.
