Author Eoin Colfer: Technology Intellectual and Apple Fanboy

A few years ago author Eoin Colfer took on the momentous task of finishing the last book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide series. Taking over from the late Douglas Adams was no easy task, but this month the trilogy will finally be complete… with the sixth book. And Another Thing hits the shelves just as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy hits its 30th anniversary.

Writing a book for a wildly popular series is nothing new for Colfer, author of the Artemis Fowl books. And if you wonder what kind of technology it takes to pull off something this momentous, the answer appears to be: stuff made by Apple.

Colfer is a Technology Intellectual (a term he good-naturedly prefers over gadget nerd) and a “sucker” for anything made by Apple. He never leaves home without a MacBook Air or an iPhone and his house and office are littered with MacBooks from down the ages. He was kind enough to stop by our offices as part of his whirlwind book tour to talk gadgets, Apple, and iPhone apps.

After the interview was over, the newest MacBook arrived in our offices. From the wide eyed oohing and ahhing he did when we unveiled it for him, our guess is that it will join the other MacBooks in his household soon enough.
