I am looking for an e-reader that includes web browsing and the ability to create documents, so this is a good candidate, but I won't buy one until I am sure that it will meet my need to search and annotate dozens of technical manuals in PDF format, each hundreds of pages long, with diagrams.

"I’m pretty sure that you can annotate and highlight PDFs and that they show up on the e-Ink side."

That's not enough certainty for me to spend >$500.

I am intrigued by this device, potentially, since I read with a pencil in my hand and annotate and underline. Is there any way to have your handwritten annotations stored as text, and organize them, using the LCD side? Also, does anyone know anything about book title availability for the Edge?

I'm sure that someone will build on that idea, Scott, as it's a good one. Even if Camangi's doesn't do well. In my experience, most of the apps I enjoy on my Droid work just fine on larger screens, and it's more about relating to developers how little they'll have to tweak in order to offer their apps to bigger Android devices. Whoever comes up with a Market for this segment that they can then offer to multiple device manufacturers will make all of our lives easier.

@K.T.: Seems to me that a lot more Android developers are going to start needing their own commerce solutions for their apps, as many of the upcoming Android devices are not phones and presumably will not have access to the Market. Camangi has started a web store intended not just for their Webstation, but for 5-to-9-inch-screen Android devices in general, but given the abysmal reviews their device has been getting, I'm betting that particular effort won't have legs.

Most likely it will not have access to the Market. Entourage will have their own market and FBReader may be in it. You should also be able to load any app as long as you have the .apk file to install it. Some developers put their .apk files on the app's website for non-phone Android users. I'm pretty sure that FBReader is one you can get that way.

@KindWord: Entourage has indicated that they will include a special version of DataViz's DocumentsToGo application with the eDGe, which will allow PDFs to be opened on either the e-ink or LCD screen as you choose (other formats supported by DTG will open only on the LCD). There doesn't appear to be an Android app for Mobipocket ebooks yet, although I hear that you can use the FBReader app from the Android Market to read non-DRM .PRC files; whether the eDGe will have access to the Market is another question.

KindWord, I don't know the answers to all of your questions yet, but we should get a review unit soon and I can check on all of this. I'm pretty sure that you can annotate and highlight PDFs and that they show up on the e-Ink side. I'm not sure if you can make them show up on the LCD. I think PDFs do reflow, but I'd have to double check. www.entrouageedge.com has all of the specifications, including file formats.

Does the Entourage Edge allow you to annotate and highlight PDF documents or just ePub formats?

Does it allow for PDF reflow? (Do the PDFs show up on the eInk side right? Or can you choose to open up w/ Acrobat or whatever android version on the lcd side?)

Does it read .PRC files?
