"Okay… the person who asked about tiger being on these the answer is no. Steve Jobs is mean and he only allows os x to run on mac computers. It has to be mac hardware to run the os."

Actually. No. It doesn't have to be Mac hardware to run the OS.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxdlBGolTE&feature=related and quite a few other youtube videos showing OS X on EEE PCs.

Heck - you can even run an old, old version of a Mac OS through an emulator on a Nokia N800 internet tablet (read: http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16306 ).

If I could run OS X on the new EEE PC (obviously post-purchase) for another $100 or so, I'd be over the moon. There are just some things I can't do in Linux and I really, *really* don't like Windows.

I'm sooo delighted by the new 8.9" screen :D as well as the expected $500 US price tag!

I guess internal USB ports (for bluetooth dongles and such) would greatly enhance the usability, with minimal affect on the price. Also, introduction of the Atom would improve productivity.

As for the screen, I believe ALL models should come with a 9" screen, with the same specs, to keep the base models highly affordable, yet more convenient to use.

Apart from that, I would HATE to see a hard drive on this!!! It'd take wayy too much power, take much too long to boot, and lead to low response times, since you would expect a really small, speed compromised HD on this device. Also, Hard drives on laptops/ultraportables are highly susceptible to damage, are more noisy, and plainly **less efficient***!

Instead, it's soo much easier to have cf cards or USB drives.
SAY NO to Hard Drives!!! :P

As for an optional external optical drive, I wonder why people want ASUS to come with one - an external optical drive is just a plug and play accessory which you could easily buy off ebay or new egg.

A touch screen(with swivel) version would add a whole new dimension and could greatly threaten the the sony vaio UX series! (which sells for about $2,300, and only features a core 2 duo @1.2ghz, and a 64 GB SSD.) and maybe even the MacBook Air.

I always wanted an ultra-portable with a webcam and wifi, but the sony UX and MacBook Air are far too expensive..... The EEE PC, on the other hand gives the best bang for the buck!.... wayy to go Asus.

I bet there are millions out there who want ultra portable connectivity with basic computing tasks. If Asus keeps tweaking up the EEE's, maintaining/dropping prices, and refrain from corporate blunders, it seems they could entirely own this high demand segment of the market.
