Eee PC Boots in Under 30 Seconds
February 18th, 2008 by Avram Piltch
A few hours ago, I was talking about how the CloudBook we received from Everex on Friday takes nearly three minutes to boot and then how it takes nearly two minutes to wake from hibernation. So I was wondering how the Eee PC compares.
I set up a brand new Eee PC with factory default settings on my dining room table and filmed it cold booting and waking from hibernation. The videos below show just how quickly the Asus UMPC performs these tasks.
Cold Boot on the Eee PC
Let’s take a look at what happens when I hit the On button to cold boot.
As you can see, it takes about 26 seconds for the desktop to appear. Perhaps there’s another 10 seconds or so where the hard drive keeps working after that. Of course, you can start clicking things when the desktop appears, but as with any operating system, things may slow down if you don’t let the hard drive finish its work before you start yours.
Wake From Hibernation on the Eee PC
How long does it take to wake an Eee PC that you set to hibernate? Have a look.
As you can see, it takes about 7 seconds. Wow, that’s fast!

That’s not hibernating Eee PC, that’s standby…

@jkk: Difference? And wouldn’t most people use Standby?
