If appearing on the New York Times’ bestseller list is proof you’ve arrived as an author, then an eBook list being added to that survey is surely proof that the category has gone mainstream. Well, that and the fact that eBook sales have seen a 190-percent increase over a year ago, according to the Association of American Publishers.

The paper of record announced yesterday that it would add electronic book lists of non-fiction and fiction beginning early next year. The lists, which the paper says it has been working on creating for two years, will be compiled from weekly data from publishers, chain stores, mom-and-pop bookstores, online stores, and “other sources.” The Times says it will be working with RoyaltyShare, which analyzes publisher data, to get independent corroboration of their data.

The two new eBook lists will add to the already existing 14 lists that are published weekly, joining everything from hardcover fiction to graphic novels.
