Ears On With Motorola’s Crystal Talk Plus
January 9th, 2009 by Todd Haselton
We had a chance to check out Motorola’s new Crystal Talk Plus technology in a test chamber on the show floor. Crystal Talk Plus helps eliminate background noise by dedicating two microphones as filters.
The chamber worked like this: one person stood out on the show floor speaking into a Crystal Talk Plus device and another person stood inside a test chamber while it blasted loud music and background noise into the background. For the test, we used Motorola’s new rugged Tundra device that it just announced would be available on AT&T.
Inside the chamber, we could hear the person standing outside on the show floor just fine thanks to the loud volume. Outside, we could just barely make out the blaring noises going on inside the chamber. We were really impressed by its ability to sort out background noise and focus only on the voice of the caller. At some points, background noise was completely eliminated altogether.
Motorola representatives weren’t ruling out the possibility of possibly licensing this new technology out to other handsets, but the company did note that right now it’s using the tech as a distinct advantage in its current and upcoming devices.
We’re looking forward to more devices coming out on the market with Crystal Talk Plus and recommend you check it out on your own if you get the chance.
