Drunktop: Compute Safely
August 29th, 2008 by Joanna Stern
In honor of the upcoming long, lazy weekend, we just had to do a short post on this unique low-powered, low-cost computer mod we came across. We aren’t sure if nettops, like the ASUS Eee Box, will ever catch on, but Drunktops could be a different story.
ComputerWorld Review (a blog not to be confused with the publication ComputerWorld) posted a series of pictures of how to turn a Whiskey bottle into a small desktop. Turns out this was actually done by the guys at MetkuMods back in 2006.
At the time, the modder used an Intel P3 733EB processor, 256MB of notebook RAM, a 40GB notebook HDD and a 60-watt mini-ITX PSU. Though some prefer aged liquor, we would love to see this guy bring his bottle into 2008 with a Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, and an SSD. And drinking the bottle empty will help you in your Vista installation. (Ah, Vista jokes never get old.)
Hit up MetkuMods for more information on how to build your own WhiskEee PC. Have a good weekend and don’t forget to compute safely.
