DeviceVM Brings Instant-On To The Corporate Set With Splashtop for Business
October 5th, 2009 by Jeffrey L. Wilson
Windows boot times have proven to be one of the great annoyances in the PC space. XP’s 40 to 50 second loads, and Vista’s 50 to 60 second boots have left many Windows users wary of powering down their computers. Thankfully, companies have stepped up to the plate with “instant-on” applications designed to get you connected to the Web in approximately 30 seconds–not ideal, but better than the alternative.
The current face of the instant-on movement, DeviceVM, has announced today that it’s bringing its Splashtop platform to the corporate end with Splashtop for Business. Some of the benefits include:
- Increased Uptime: In the event of an operating system or hard drive failure, users can still connect to the Web.
- Productivity: View and edit Microsoft Office files.
- Full Connectivity: The ability to access corporate virtualized cloud resources over 3G, LAN, and Wi-Fi connections.
- Quick Info: Access cached Outlook e-mail, calendar, contacts, and task information via Quick Info feature. You can also retrieve Gmail, MSN Hotmail, and Yahoo Mail using Outlook Web Access.
- Virtual Desktop Support: Splashtop for Business supports virtualization technologies from Citrix and VMware.
- Enhanced Security: Remote Desktop Protocol keeps sensitive data in a remote data center, not on the notebook. In addition, employees can’t change system settings or install non-corporate approvaed plug-ins or applications.
Naturally, Splashtop for Business comes with a slew of communication tools such as AIM, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, Skype, and Yahoom Messenger. Splashtop for Business will be available on computers from “the world’s three largest PC vendors” by the end of the year.
