Delta Offers Baggage-Tracking App with Free Wi-Fi

Lost bags are a traveler’s nightmare. While Delta can’t guarantee bags will arrive at on time and at the right airport, the company has launched a mobile app that lets customers track their bags from check-in to carousel.

As a bonus, Delta offers free in-flight Wi-Fi within its Fly Delta app, so customers can check the location of their bags once it’s deemed safe to turn on electronic devices.  But that’s as far as the free Wi-Fi goes — connections are limited to Delta.com. To get started, passengers enter the numbers on their bag tag receipts to launch bag tracking on their mobile phones. iPhone users have the option to scan the bar code on the receipt instead of typing in numbers.

The app also lets Delta customers pay baggage fees during mobile check-in, view airport maps and Delta Sky Club locations. And in the unfortunate event that a bag is delayed more than 12 hours, Delta offers a $25 rebate.

The free Fly Delta app is available for iPhone, Android and Windows phone users and Delta says a BlackBerry version will be released in early 2012.
