Dell Updates Its Latitude Business Laptops With Core i5 and i7 Processors

Notebook makers don’t tend to update their business notebooks as often, so Dell can be excused for only refreshing its mainstream Latitude line with new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors now. The new lineup includes the 13.3-inch E4310 (pictured), the 14.1-inch E5410, and the 15.6-inch E5510. In addition to these processor offerings (Core i3 is coming in June), these laptops share the LatitudeOn Instant On operating system, which lets users access their e-mail, calendars, and contacts while the laptop boots. All also support WiMax and have optional three-year batteries (the standard being one year of warranty service). None are offered with discrete graphics; just an integrated card by Intel. As nerdy and particular as it might strike some people, we were interested to learn that for this generation of Latitudes, Dell moved its hard drive accelerometer from the hard drive to the motherboard, with the promise that the notebooks will be faster to park the hard drive in the event of a drop than other laptops. The E4310, E5410, and E5510 are all available now, and start at $1,449, $759, and $789, respectively.
