At the Intel Developer Forum this morning, Dell announced that tomorrow it will start selling editions of its popular Inspiron Mini 10v netbook with a special pre-release version of Intel’s Moblin operating system. Dell has been offering Ubuntu linux on its netbooks for some-time now and the version of Moblin they are using is actually built on an Ubuntu base. It’s called Ubuntu Moblin Remix Developer Edition. Now say that five times fast.

Though this system is clearly targeted at early adopters, it’s the first mainstream netbook we’ve seen that comes with any form of Moblin pre-installed. In a week where Intel showed a smart phone running Moblin, it looks like Intel’s operating system is poised to be a force in netbooks, MIDs, phones, and other mobile devices.

The notebooks will be sold exclusively at Dell Online at http://www.dell.com/ubuntu.No word yet on pricing. However, if you already own a Mini 10v and can’t wait to test Ubuntu Moblin Remix Developer Edition out, you can download it free from Dell even now. It may even work on some non-Dell netbooks, if they share the same hardware.
