Dell Streak Reviewed: An Android Tablet We’d Actually Buy

Is it a tablet? A phone? A MID? A GPS navigator? Categorizing the Dell Streak is a challenge–and so is using it with one hand. With its huge 5-inch display, the Streak is pocket friendly for a tablet but massive even compared to 4.3-inch superphones like the Droid X and Evo 4G. What do you get with that extra .7 inches? The same resolution but a more comfortable viewing experience for surfing the Web, viewing maps, and playing videos (assuming the Streak can handle the files).

What we like about the Streak, besides its gorgeous display, is its intuitive interface, sleek design, and front-facing camera for video calls. You’ll also have a wide range of cool accessory options. Access to the Android Market alone makes this device miles better than the Archos 5. However, this tablet-phone combo runs the dated Android OS 1.6, which leaves out features and slows this 1-GHz gadget down. We’d expect OS 2.1 in mid-2010. We also noticed some bugs, but the software isn’t yet final.

So does the Streak belong in your (stretched) pocket? Check out the full review here. Want to be one of the first to snag a Streak? Dell just posted a sign-up page for a “pre-sale opportunity.”
