Dell Streak Launching End of July, $499 for Unlocked Version

June 2nd, 2010 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief

Android fans longing for something more compelling than the Backflip won’t have to wait much longer. Today at the D8 conference Dell announced that its Streak tablet-phone will go on sale at the end of next month. And while we don’t know how much AT&T will charge for the device on contract, it will sell for $499 unlocked. Dell also demoed HDMI output on the device, which looked fairly smooth on the big screen. The company says that it’s shipping the Streak with the HDMI dock included in Europe, so it would be great if that happens in the U.S., too.

In the meantime, check out some hands-on photos we snapped of the Streak at the Qualcomm booth. During our brief hands-on overall performance was fairly snappy, but pinch to zoom in the browser was a bit sluggish. That could be a preproduction issue, though. We can’t wait to get our hands on a final review unit.
