Dell Streak 7 Loses Out (A Lot) to Samsung Galaxy Tab on Battery Life

You should read our Dell Streak 7 full review for a complete explanation of why the new 7-inch Android tablet falls flat, but we’ll tell you the biggest flaw now: the new Dell Streak’s battery life falls far short of that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, its 7-inch Android competitor.

On the LAPTOP Battery Test (tests constant web surfing over Wi-Fi and data networks), the Dell Streak lasted just 3 hours and 48 minutes using HSPA+. Results over a local Wi-Fi network were slightly better, but 4 hours and 13 minutes is still far from great.

The T-Mobile version of the Galaxy Tab kept its wheels spinning for 8 hours and 30 minutes over a 3G connection, which makes the Dell Streak 7′s battery life a tough sell. Our chart above details just how well each Galaxy Tab out-performs the Dell Streak on alive time.

Unless the Dell Streak 7′s value to consumers is salvaged by its standout features – a Wi-Fi hotspot that doesn’t cost extra, the attractive Dell Stage user interface, Tegra 2 dual-core processing – it might not be long for the 7-inch Android tablet community.
