Dell Latitude Netbooks On the Horizon
Dell has been no stranger to the netbook market, but its offerings have fell into its consumer Inspiron line (see Inspiron Mini 9, 10, 12), at least until now. Gizmodo received a tip of Dell Latitude 2100 ($379.00) ‘Welch’ netbooks that seem to have 10-inch displays.
According to tipster the education aimed netbooks will be priced around $600 and sport an Intel Atom processor, support up to 2GB RAM and have an SSD, 802.11ab/g/n wireless, and Bluetooth. It will also be avilable with 3 and 6-cell battery options.
The Latitude 2100 ‘Welch’ netbook is rumored to launch in May 2009 in time for back to school season in an array of colors, including School Bus Orange.

This thing better have a huge SSD to be worth $600. Looks pretty chunky too. There better be some other specs involved to justify a chunky 10-inch $600 netbook.

Chunky? It looks about the same size and my Asus Eee 1000HE. Latitudes are usually easier to work on. My concerns are for the keyboard size and chipset AND will it be as easy to scratch as the E series Latitudes, which is to say VERY EASY TO SCRATCH.

Saw one the other day. Nice feel to keyboard. Not too heavy with 6-cell battery installed, and it actually created a slight rise to the back which made typing more comfortable. Case is textured for better grip, and does not seem as if would be easily scratched/scuffed. Was told it will be released in May.
