Dell Adds to ‘Z’ Line: A Marriage of Portability, Price & Power

dell-inspiron-14zApparently the Inspiron 11z was just the first act, as Dell announced two new Z line notebooks: the Inspiron 14z and 15z. Like their 11.6-inch sibling, the larger Zs are thin (about an inch) and feature ULV processors. Dell also seems determined to pack them with as much hardware as will fit. The Z line will feature 500GB/7,200 rpm hard drives, Wi-Fi and optional mobile broadband, up to 8GB of RAM, choice of Intel Pentium Core 2 Solo ULV or Core 2 and Core 2 duo processors, and 4 or 6-cell batteries. The 6-cell is rated to last up to 8 hours on both laptops (but in “airport mode” — wireless off, screen dimmed). Both the 14 and 15.6-inch HD displays have an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Inspiron 14z and 15z start at $599 and come in two colors: black and cherry red.
