Daily Distraction: thisissand.com
December 4th, 2008 by Meghan J. McDonough, LAPTOP Web Producer/Writer
Today’s beachy distraction is somewhere between a goofy desktop zen garden and that jar of colored sand your niece made at school. Simply titled “thisissand.com,” the site is exactly that. Hold the left button of your mouse down and watch it sprinkle sand around the screen. Press “C” to choose another color or drag your mouse across the color palatte to create a colored gradient. Our favorite part is the sound of the sand as it spills onto our screen. Created by Johanna Lundberg, Jenna Sutela, and Timo Koro as a way “a playground of colours and sound for people to play with,” it reminds us of the best parts of the beach. Still sound too strange? The grey box in the upper left corner explains more about it and shows off the work of other sand artists.
