D7 Kicks Off With Twitter Co-Founders

May 27th, 2009 by Joanna Stern

allthingd1Tonight The Wall Street Journal’s 7th annual D: All Things Digital conference kicked off in Carlsbad, California.  Joining co-hosts of the show Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher on stage this evening were Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone. The co-founders shared a bit (yes, we were hoping for more) about their plans for the currently booming micro-blogging service. Williams revealed that they will roll out more search options for the site as well as discussed some monetization plans.  One of those include professional paid-for authenticated accounts. When asked the inevitable question about selling the service,  Williams said that he plans to be still developing the company  in five years. When Swisher asked if a billion dollars was on the table he said it wasn’t in the plans and that Twitter’s board of investors is of the same mindset of the founders in not selling. Overall the talk proved that the co-founders themselves have no clear picture of Twitter’s business model. Stay tuned for more news from D7 in the next few days. We are expecting some edge of your seat announcements from companies from Plastic Logic to Palm.
