CTIA: BOLT Browser Updates to 2.3, Adds HTML5 Audio and Facebook Widget

Oct 6, 2010 08:00 AM EDT by Sean Ludwig

Bolt Browser Facebook WidgetBitsream on Wednesday announced an update to its popular BOLT browser that adds HTML5 audio streaming, the ability to backup bookmarks in the cloud, and a Facebook widget. BOLT’s upgrade to 2.3 represents a nice offering for customers that can use Java-based apps on their phones, including BlackBerry, Palm devices with J2ME support, and some Windows Mobile phones.

BOLT 2.3’s HTML5 audio streaming will complement the HTML5 video streaming introduced in BOLT 2.1. Other things have been tweaked in 2.3’s release as well, including an improved Twitter widget and enhanced in-line text editing that doesn’t need a separate pop-up box.

To download the latest version of BOLT, go to www.boltbrowser.com from your mobile device. BOLT has had 11.6 million downloads since its launch back in February 2009.

We’ve been fans of BOLT since it’s release because it, along with Opera Mini, offers a better alternative to the stock BlackBerry browser. BOLT made our list of Top 10 BlackBerry Apps back in July 2009,  so we are always happy to see updates to the browser that make it more useful.
