Mobile Edge Makes Laptop Bag From Corn
August 3rd, 2010 by Anna Attkisson, LAPTOP Managing Editor
More than just fuel and food, corn is used to make far more things than you might think, including crayons, diapers, firecrackers, and toothpaste. Now you can add to that list laptop bags. Mobile Edge announced today that they’ve partnered with DuPont to incorporate a new substance called Sorona as the primary material to make the laptop case manufacturer’s ScanFast line. The polymeric fabric is produced with corn stock that reportedly reduces greenhouse gases by 63 percent, when compared to nylon or polyester. The fibers are said to be “soft and extremely stain resistant with high strength and stiffness qualities.” The new ScanFast 2.0 Collection includes a black briefcase, messenger, and backpack, each priced at $99.
