Clickfree, makers of the excellent Clickfree Transformer
, has unveiled two new Mac and PC-compatible products that are designed to make backing up essential data infinitely simple: Clickfree Traveler and Clickfree DVD Transformer. Approximately the size of a credit card, Clickfree Traveler is a flash-based storage device available in 16GB ($99.99), 32GB ($149), and 64GB ($249) capacities. As with other Clickfree products, it automatically runs when you plug it into a notebook, looks for files, and begins backing up–no manual software installs or drive selection necessary. It can backup multiple computers, and has a backup sumary that displays the number of files that have been copied, the total size of the backup, and details of each file.
Clickfree DVD Transformer
Clickfree DVD Transformer ($39.99) is a small, flash-based USB key that connects to a notebook’s USB port. Like the Traveler, it scours your HDD for files, but allows users to back up to a CD or DVD instead of an external hard drive. Backup can span a single or multiple discs, and the disc management feature keeps a record of every disc ever created on any computer. Unlike the previous Clickfree DVD Transformer that required use of the company’s special CDs and DVDs, you can use any optical disc. Both the Clickfree Traveler and Clickfree DVD Transformer feature “Smart Restore Technology” that allows users to restore or share all files with any Mac or PC–you’e not limited to restoring to the same notebook as you are with image-based backup solutions.
