Casio’s 4.8-inch 1080p LCD Packs More Pixels than iPhone 4

Say hello to the world’s smallest high-definition LCD display.

Built by Ortustech, a partnership between Casio Computer and Toppan Printing, this 4.8-inch window into a lazily-prepared bowl of fruit salad touts a full high-def resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a density of 458 pixels per inch. Ortustech uses its own proprietary HAST (Hyper Amorphous Silicon TFT) technology to reproduce over 16.8 million colors, provide viewing angles 160 degrees wide, and squeeze more pixels into every precious square-inch.

You may recall that the pixel density of the iPhone 4′s acclaimed 960 x 640 Retina Display is 326 ppi. No doubt the clarity of that device’s display contributed in some small way to the success of Apple’s latest handset. What’s pictured above could be the potential display of a future smart phone that could best the iPhone in terms of screen quality. Oh, and Ortustech’s HAST technology could be applied to HDTV screen monitors and gaming devices too.

    Impressive piece of technology indeed.
Keeping the same ratio, they should produce a 1600×900 screen which would be exactly 4″diagonally, which is a better size for smartphones, IMHO.
