If you think digital camera design has been stagnate, you’re not alone. Casio aims to turn what’s become standard camera design — big lens on front, display on back– completely around. Literally. the 12 MP CMOS sensor Casio Tryx features a uniquely slim design which rotates around and within the camera’s frame. The frame can be used to grip the camera while shooting 1080p video, slow motion video, or to help angle the camera for a hard-to-reach shot. Not only does the lens and display rotate around the camera, but the display also rotates, making it easy to snap a self-portrait on the go.

The physical design is definitely impressive, but so are the guts of this camera, which helps justify it’s $249 price tag. In addition to the high-speed CMOS sensor and 21mm wide-angle lens, it includes HDR-ART technology, which takes three pictures at slightly different exposures and combines them to create one excellent shot that balances light and dark areas around the the subject.

We’ll be checking out the Tryx’s interesting design on the floor of CES later this week, so stay tuned.
