Tired of getting unwanted phone calls from pesky telemarketers or your unrelenting ex? If you own a Samsung Galaxy S4, you have plenty of options when it comes to blocking people from calling you. From unknown numbers to those that start with specific area codes, you can block individual and groups of numbers to your heart’s desire. Here’s how.

1. Navigate to Call settings. Swipe down from the home page and tap the gear icon at the top right, then select My Device and Call.

5. Hit Create. You can enter a number into the field or pull from your Contacts or Call Logs by tapping the icon shaped like a person at the end of the field.

To block more numbers, just repeat steps 4 to 6. You can also reject numbers from entire cities if you wish. Just enter the area code for that region in Step 5, then select Starts With under the Match Criteria option below the number field. For US numbers, this function works whether or not you add a “+1″ before the area code.

You can also add numbers to your reject list from your contacts page or call logs. Long-press the number you want to block, then select Add To Reject List

You can define up to 100 numbers to block, and those that were defined as “Starts With” count as one number.

Now when your object of frustration tries to call you, they will hear one ring, followed by a disconnection sound. Your phone won’t display the call at all, but if you check your call logs, blocked calls show up so you know your S4 is hard at work keeping irritants at bay. A blocked symbol appears below the number to indicate it was rejected.

Does this depends on your carrier? When I block calls they go to voicemail so I have the additional step of deleting the message.

  2. Ray L. Says:

I’m with Verizon. My S4 has Block Call list instead of Reject list. My block calls also went to voicemail. Also I have to turn the block mode on to get it work. By doing that, I block all calls which I want to get, unless I ‘except’ all my contacts in the setup. Besides this block mode is designed for blocking while you’re in a meeting, for instance. When you get out from the meeting, you will turn it off, but then the whole blocking function is off. Telemarketing just loves this kind of blocking.

  3. Fauziah Says:

When i block call or reject list, they still can call me. I follow all the step..the icon of blocking appear on the number, then how to block avoid calls?

  4. Me Says:

They can still leave a voice message. I think it has to do with the latest update to the S4. They wouldn’t be able to leave a message before.

  5. Steve Carr Says:

    Thanks for your help

  6. W Says:

You need to update your call blocking instructions as apparently there has been a revised procedure since you last input these instructions……but I was able to figure it out. Thanks.

  7. Ellen Says:

This is strange, I have a couple numbers on reject. Only one still gets through. My ex husband. How messed up it that?

  8. Lauren Low Says:

The Samsung S5 has the reject list feature, but blocked calls go to voicemail. How can I make it so it is the same as Samsung S2, when a blocked numbers call they hear one ring followed by disconnection sounds?

  9. Lisa Says:

I’m interested to know what the blocked call will hear. Does it go straight to voice mail? I have a galaxy s4. I just don’t want this person paying me a personal visit to find out why i’ve blocked them. Thanks.

  10. Merv Says:

“Unknown” is not in Contacts, is in Rejects, but is my bank and needs to be un-Rejected from my S4 on AT&T. I’ve tried Call rejection, Manage Auto reject mode, Auto reject list, check box by the number and delete, which deletes the “Unknown”, but it doesn’t stay deleted.

    Does this block texts?

  12. Sam Says:

    Oh my thank you !!!!

  13. Lilian Says:

For some reason it has set itself to autoreject unknown numbers and I lost a very important job invitation call…
    It also autoactivates Mobile Data…
Disabled it, hope I won’t have any more problems with blocked calls

  14. Sara Says:

I have three questions: 1) by adding a number to this list, how will this ring through? will they still get my voice mail? or will it be an error message they hear? 2) will this also bock the persons texts? And 3) will I get these texts if i remove them off this block list? I have a Samsung S4thanks so much!
