15 Best Smartphones of All Time

Today’s state-of-the-art smartphones, like the Galaxy S4 and HTC One, pack quad-core processors, shoot photos faster than you can blink and sport gorgeous full HD displays. These devices also tap into blazing 4G LTE networks that are faster than some home broadband connections. But to truly appreciate all the features we now take for granted, it’s important to take a look at how we got here. I’m fortunate enough to have witnessed the smartphone evolution first-hand, from the very first PDA-phone hybrids to today’s big-screen phablets. Based on the hundreds of reviews I’ve written and edited over the years, here’s my list of the top 15 smartphones of all time.

God, but I miss the Palm OS!

  2. Alireza Gol Says:

I Think Samsung Galaxy S II should have been there instead of s III since S II was the only mobile phone that was better than 4 and 4S…

  3. Vivek S Says:

well.. I dnt find any symbians and nokia handsets here? seems the author forgot them?

  4. Steve Says:

@Vivek S: Are you serious? Nokia 9290… and it’s Symbian.

But, you are right that there are a lot of very definitive smartphones that aren’t there… The Sony Ericsson’s for example (used in James Bond, Tomb Raider and more) were pretty definitive in their time. Other Nokia’s like the 5800 XpressMusic, while not the best screen, boasted some pretty sweet features, like Opera browser, store and possibly still one of the best speakers on a phone ever. Notwithstanding some amazing phones, it’s a strange and ignorant selection…
