I’m not 100% sure what swalb is looking for, but after trying 11″ unlrtabook, 10″ netbook, 15.6″, 17.3″ and 18.3″I might take a shot at the 14″ Alienware. Nice screensize I think. Watch the ports though and, to all note makers: When are you going to put screw holes for the VGA monitor connection on the side! Gorilla tape is ok. The main thing I have concluded, and I usually hook up to 27″ monitors, is that after trying numersous keyboards, and I have the 17R Alienware, I want that keyboard, but I think I can only get it in a AW laptop. The whole purpose of laptops, usually is mobility, so on a plane, train, bus or car, the protocol is dark and silent so as not to disturb others. I put everything through extreme testing, pushing MS, dropping Zune endlessly [nice piece] and printers whew. I’m down to the last two choices for Laser and Inkjet and may have two winners. But the bluelit, or other color, soft plush keys on the AW Laptops are hard to beat for a. Total and complete silence and B. I have not lost a key yet. I did bust the dvd drive, but that’s because I put a Micro card into the DVD [Be careful]. Everyhting was fine but I went too far and a small peice of white plastic came out of he DVD, which Isuspect is the “pushout” for the DVD [Even if it had a button I think it would have the same effect as the Eject button, nothing. Also the 17R is a little weihty and I suspect the 14′ is my sweet spot anyway. Great keyboard and since I ususally connect to 27″ monitors [To expensive above that point], I can use it either way. Long winded I know. Not sorry.

yeah watch out for probs like cursor jumping and blue screen , Dell will put you off till warranty runs out Ive been told… their service was fantastic but now buyer beware!

  4. Shane W. Says:

I’d be careful ordering an Alienware 14 Laptop for a bit. I ordered one in January 2014 that had build issues — it took them 30 days to get me a replacement.

The brand new replacement I received was defective as well. Sending it back for exchange (and another 30 day wait). No one should have to have their brand new $2000+ laptop “fixed” right out of the box.
