AT&T Announces BlackBerry Curve 8900
May 4th, 2009 by Todd Haselton
Today AT&T announced that the Curve 8900–originally offered by T-Mobile– will be available this summer. The only draw back? The series doesn’t support 3G data networks.
The Curve 8900 is similar to the BlackBerry Bold, in that it supports Wi-Fi networks and has GPS support, but it has a sleeker, thinner profile and a keyboard that’s more similar to existing Curves. It also has a higher resolution 480 x 360 pixels display and a better 3.2MP camera.
Now that AT&T is offering the Nokia E71x for just $99 with a 2-year contract, though, the Curve 8900 has some stiff competition. Nokia’s device also has a gorgeous screen, support for Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 3.2MP camera. And the biggest crusher is that the Nokia E71x is a 3G data device, meaning it will blow past the 8900 while loading Web sites, downloading music, or streaming videos. It’s also one of the most beautiful smart phones we’ve ever laid eyes on and is the thinnest on the market.
There’s no word on pricing for the 8900, but AT&T is bundling the phone with unlimited AT&T Wi-Fi access at over 20,000 hot spots if you purchase an unlimited data plan.
