ASUS to Put HyperSpace into Its Laptops

asushyperspaceJust a few weeks after making a huge splash at CES (and taking home LAPTOP’s Readers Choice and Best Software awards) Phoenix Technologies is announcing that its Hyperspace instant-on environment will be coming to ASUS laptops sometime soon. According to the press release ASUS will incorporate HyperSpace into “their next generation notebooks.” No specific models were detailed and no telling if this means it will hit the Eee line. We assume that HyperSpace will replace ASUS’ ExpressGate instant-on environment, which is powered by Splashtop. We were impressed with our initial testing of  HyperSpace. We liked the ability to easily switch between Windows, the sleek Hyperspace interface and its ability to quickly wake from a sleep state. However, we were very skeptical of the subscription based model that would require users to pay per year.  We have no details yet about what types of subscription will come with the ASUS version of Hyperspace, but we think it will make an easier sell for ASUS if it’s a lifetime subscription.
