ASUS Exec Confirms Eee Pad Tablet, Has Impeccable Timing (With Video)

asus-tablet_shMaybe you haven’t heard, but Apple will most likely announce a tablet in a few hours (if it doesn’t I’ll laugh, cry, or eat my hat). Just to spice things up, though, this morning an ASUS executive confirmed plans for the company’s own tablet, an Nvidia Tegra-powered slate. We saw this tablet at CES (video below), but the meager specs confirmed today are the first we’ve heard.

To be fair, it’s not as if ASUS released a press release in a futile attempt to one-up Apple; someone asked him about a possible tablet, and he answered candidly. “A slate? Yes, sure,” said Eric Chen, ASUS’ corporate VP. “We have the Eee Pad. Right now it is still under development” He didn’t provide many details about the technology inside the Eee Pad, except to say it will have an ARM CPU and 3G connectivity.

Chen added that ASUS has been working particularly carefully on the UI, even studying the iPhone OS (the rumored basis of Apple’s tablet) as a model.

We had the chance to see the Eee Pad under glass at CES. Check out our video taken at the show.

The Asus tablet is very intriguing. Thanks for the share. I am very much looking forward to seeing the new Asus ereaders when they hit the stage this year-the purportedly low prices along with great features may knock Kindle out of first place. Asus did rock the netbook world didn’t it?
The ipad is all ihype. I mean, sure it’s great for gaming and browsing, but I personally do not want a browser tempting me while I am reading. Over-priced and over-rated.
