Running XP, which writes to the disk ALOT, it completely freezes for several seconds very very frequently, during which you can't do anything. It's very annoying, and it makes web surfing very irritating. Low end games don't seem to be affected though. I'm upset I didn't get something with ANY different kind of a hard drive. Looks like I'll pay another $150 bucks for a better SSD, which brings the price up to $550, which isn't very good for something that plays videos very poorly. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. Model EEEPC900-W047, white (the black one is EEEPC900-BK041) , the CPU is not Atom, it is still Celeon M, and it runs Linux. It works flawlessly!!! This is sweet point of the eee PC. You get a 8.9 inch LCD which is large enough but still keep the foot print small. You get 1 GB of RAM which is more than enough to run XP or Linux and you get a single 16 GB SSD so that you do not need to deal with that odd internal 4GB SSD. In short, it is the 20 GB model less the 4 GB internal SSD. Why Asus did this? I can see two reasons: 1. They are under pressure from MSI Wind, Gigabyte M912, Cloverbook, HP. They got almost entire market, but they are loosing ground. The $549 price tag for a EEE PC 900 or 901 just does not fly. For that price, I can get a full featured Compaq C700 for less (Actually Bestbuy has this Compaq on sale for $399.) So they want to keep the market share. So they lower the price on the exiting 900 models. 2. They have ordered too many old Celeron M and Intel can not handle the demand for Atom so Asus could not get enough Atom. Then they had too many 16 GB SSD on hand and not enough 4GB (the 4GB is actually at a higher grade than the 16 GB in terms of lifespan.) So they make this 16 GB model just to dump all the inventories. The $399 is really the best price of the sub note books. I expect this will be the real upgrade for many 70x owners to look forward to. And I expect Asus will put a real Atom in this model if this sells well. The problem is right now no retailer are pushing this model. They are pushing the old 900 (12GB and 20GB) with $100 rebate. Of course, the retailers make more money with the old 900s. This is why the 16GB model does not even get a picture on most retailer's site and can not be searched on their site (you can still google it by typing the model number in Google) although they do carry this model. There's the way overpriced 1000 series, and now this 900 for $400. Of course the real problem is finding any of these new netbooks for sale. Winds are still impossible to actually buy in the USA, and so are these new Asus models. It would be very nice if one fo these companies would consider stooping low enough to sell us some. They’re releasing Eee models left and right, with all sorts of strange prices and weird configurations. There’s the way overpriced 1000 series, and now this 900 for $400.

Of course the real problem is finding any of these new netbooks for sale. Winds are still impossible to actually buy in the USA, and so are these new Asus models. It would be very nice if one fo these companies would consider stooping low enough to sell us some. Or maybe that’s asking too much.
