ASUS Adds VX5 to Lamborghini Line, Purrs with Quad Core Processor and 1TB of Storage
January 6th, 2009 by Joanna Stern
ASUS’ Lamborghini rolled into the detail shop for 2009 and comes out quite a different notebook than it predecessor the VX3. The VX5 joins the rest of the 16 inch laptops on the market (HP HDX, Fujitsu N270, Samsung’s R610, etc.) and has the potential to be one of the sleekest and fastest systems ever. Re-designed from the ground up, it features a carbon fiber chassis, backlit keyboard with ambient sensor, and a illuminated logo on the LCD cover and frame around its touchpad. Thankfully, it maintains its predecessors high-quality Italian leather stitching on the palm rest. Its all-new design incorporates an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, 4GB of RAM, and dual hard drives that total 1 TB in storage. Left from the specs is the discrete graphics option, but rest assure it will offer the “latest discrete VGA.” Combine that with its 1920 x 1080-resolution 16-inch display and 1080i video should look fantastic. It will come with Windows Vista Premium, Business, or Ultimate and ASUS’ Splashtop-powered Expressgate instant-on OS. When it comes to connectivity, 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 are standard, but the Lamborghini is also WiMax-capable. We will take a wild guess at the price and say its going to be around $3,000 like similarly configured Quad-Core systems, but we will have to wait on ASUS for the official cost.
