You chose HootSuite as the best social networking app, and now we’re moving on to our final category: games. They keep you entertained on the train and bring eye-popping graphics to your handset’s screen, but which is your favorite? Read on for the lowdown on Angry Birds, Chaos Rings, Fruit Ninja, Infinity Blade, and Rage HD—and don’t forget to vote!
Angry Birds: This mega-popular single-player game challenges you to destroy evil green pigs by launching birds in a slingshot. Available on Android, iOS, Symbian^3, and webOS for $0.99, this game features 225 levels of varying difficulty; the more levels you’ve played, the more birds you’ll discover—from the basic red bird to a white bird that drops explosive eggs. According to Rovio, the game’s Finland-based developer, Angry Birds has been downloaded 50 million times.
Chaos Rings: Choose a male and female character, then get ready to fight for your life against other pairs. Created by the developers behind Final Fantasy, this role-playing game centers around the Ark Arena, where players battle enemies in tournament-style matches and in dungeons. Chaos Rings features four scenarios which take place across several worlds. The RPG is currently only available on iOS, and you can download it for $12.99.
Fruit Ninja: Developed by Halfbrick Studios, Fruit Ninja has a simple (and rather messy) concept: Players slice fruit with the touchpad-controlled blade. Earn extra points by slashing multiple fruits with one swipe, and you can make multiple slices simultaneously by using more than one finger. The game ends if you don’t slice all the fruit—or if you get hit by a bomb. Fruit Ninja costs $0.99 and is available on iOS and Windows Phone 7.
Infinity Blade: Running on the Unreal Engine 3 (which supports advanced graphics and HDRR), Infinity Blade tasks players to scale a castle and kill the God King in a sword fighting duel. Each time you fail to slay the God King, extra enemies will be added to the level, making it harder to progress in the game. Infinity Blade is currently only available on iOS, and it sells for $5.99.
Rage HD: In this first-person shooter game from id Software, players find themselves the star of a post-apocalyptic game show, and they must fend off hungry mutants while searching for ammo and cash. Defend yourself with a pistol, shotgun, or machine gun as you battle your way through the three levels. Rage HD is available on iOS for $1.99.
