Apple App Store Reaches 500 Million Downloads, 15,000 Apps Available
January 16th, 2009 by Todd Haselton
In one month and 11 days, Apple added 5,000 new applications to its App store and achieved 200 million more downloads. Today the company announced that there are 15,000 official applications and that 500 million applications have been downloaded since the store launched on July 10. In other words, in just over a month, the application store saw a 50 percent growth in available apps, and the number of applications sold increased by 67 percent. And what’s at the top of that applications list? None other than iFart, a 99-cent flatulence simulator application that’s been at the top of the charts for more than 2 weeks.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Apple claimed that the market in 2009 would be worth at least a Billion. Here’s shooting for two!
