If it feels like you’re seeing more and more Android phones when you’re out and about, you’re not alone. A new comScore report released today reveals that 33% of smart phones in the U.S. are powered by Google’s mobile OS. The report covers December 2010 through February 2011 and includes a wealth of information about all the smart phone platforms and general mobile phone usage.

Although Android accounts for a third of U.S. smart phones, RIM remains in second place with 28.9% of the market. However, RIM actually lost 4.6% of its U.S. market share during this three month period, while Android gained 7% share. Apple gained just 0.2% and retained third place with 25.5% of the market. Rounding out the top five are Microsoft (Windows Mobile and Windows Phones combined) with 7.7% and Palm with 2.8%. Both experienced losses of 1.3% and 1.1.%, respectively.

Another interesting tidbit in comScore’s report is that the Verizon iPhone had the highest one-month sales of any single phone, suggesting that previous rumors regarding slow sales don’t hold much water.
