Android Cup Kicks Off Monday, June 14

Jun 10, 2010 02:12 PM EDT by Michael A. Prospero, LAPTOP Reviews Editor

Based on the vast amount of reader response to our Smart Phone Madness this past March, we wanted to give wireless fans another chance to have their voices heard. Except this time we’re shamelessly glomming on to the FIFA World Cup, which starts tomorrow. Yes, we’re launching another smart phone competition, only this time, it’s just Android phones–and as you can tell based on our Which Android is Right for You? post, there are plenty of Google-powered handsets to go around.

We’ve selected 16 of the top Android phones (most of which we’ve reviewed but one that is imminent) and seeded them into a bracket. Like Smartphone Madness, each day will feature a new contest, and it’ll be up to you to vote for which phone you think is the best.

The full bracket  is after the jump. Unlike the real World Cup, we’re skipping the round-robin part of the tournament, and going right to the single-elimination round. It’s like the NCAA Tournament, only geekier, and you don’t have to know anything about soccer, either–which makes you like most Americans (download the bracket in PDF here).

The first game is on Monday, June 14, and will pit the HTC Droid Incredible against the Samsung Behold II.

We decided to give you a few days to mull over our seedings, and even start your own office pool! Which Android phone will take the cup? Click the image below or here to download the PDF!

One final note: Yes, we know that the Dell Streak hasn’t been given a full star-rated review yet. With any luck we’ll get one in before that match comes up, but we’ve had a fair amount of hands-on with the device, so we’re not completely in the dark.
