Android Cup Game 5: Motorola Devour vs. MyTouch 3G

Well, after an early lead by the Dell Streak, the Motorola Droid came back with a vengeance and put a whuppin’ on the Streak. Today’s game, which will see us into the Father’s Day weekend, is the Motorola Devour vs. the MyTouch 3G.

In some ways the follow-up to the Droid, the Motorola Devour looks like a more stylish update to the old Sidekicks. Its aluminum body may weigh nearly as much as the Droid (5.9 ounces), but its rounded edges give it a softer feel. It has a smallish 3.1 inch (480 x 320) display, a 600-MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, Motorola’s Motoblur user interface, a 3-megapixel camera, and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi.  The slide-out keyboard had a solid action, but, like the Droid, we found it a little awkward to use.

When we reviewed the Devour, it was running Android 1.6–which means no multitouch support, cost $149 (or $99 at Best Buy), although you can get it for as little as a penny off of Amazon.

Up against the Devour is the venerable MyTouch 3G. Not to be confused with the MyTouch 3G Slide (which recently debuted), the MyTouch 3G lacks a physical keyboard. This was the second Android phone in the U.S., and was curvy where the G1 was more brick-like. Compared to the Devour, the MyTouch 3G has a slightly larger 3.2-inch display, but it has the same 480 x 320-pixel resolution. We found its soft keyboard fairly easy to type on, but the phone was slightly sluggish, even with the 528-MHz Qualcomm processor.

So, which would you rather have? The Devour with its aluminum frame and slide-out keyboard, or the more compact MyTouch 3G? The winner of this contest will go on to face the HTC Droid Incredible in the next round.

Hmm. What decisions were made by choosing the Motorola Droid better than Dell Streak??? Streak its so much powerful and will have Froyo in the near future after release!!….. its about size??? Common, now newer smartphones are 4.3″.
