Android 3.1 Launching Today On Motorola Xoom
May 10th, 2011 by Jamall Oluokun Today at Google I/O, Google has announced a new update to the Honeycomb version of Android. Starting today, Motorola Xoom 3G users will begin receiving an OTA update that adds increased functionality to Android’s tablet OS. Some of the more useful features include a scrolling app tray and expanable widgets.
Scrolling App Tray
Previously on Android 3.0, users were presented with a static app tray that displayed the last 5 recent apps in landscape mode or the 7 most recent apps used in tablet mode. With the 3.1 update, the tray will scroll to show more apps.
Expandable Widgets
Android is known for its cool widgets which appear on Honeycomb’s home screens. In Android 3.0, users had to choose between different widget sizes which fill up your widget menu. Now they can expand their widgets by dragging the edges of the widget frame.
As with any Google update, there are a host of other nuggets of functionality to be uncovered and we will provide a more detailed hands-on with Android 3.1 when it’s released.
