Although I am a Linux fan, (not because I use it but because its open source), I have to say that this analyst seem to know what he is talking about. Asus has reported that they did not expect their Asus EEE PC to sell beyond 200K but sales reached into 350K early on. That is as the analyst mentioned, a very small market share. But Asus does not just make EEE PC. They also make regular lap tops and portables, and they also make desk top parts.

So by expecting EEE PC to take over the market share, is like expecting one particular model of flat screen television from Sony to take over the market place. Its not going to happen.

This "analyst" is coming off as a bit of a jerk. I agree with him that windows on the eeepc makes alot more sense. Just towards compatibility with the majority of other computers. I would never use linux willingly over a version of windows or macosx. I need microsoft word, I need it, at all times.

Look at it this way Mark. Times are changing. That much we can all agree on. Thanks to archiving, these pages, as well as your words, will be around for a long long time. Hindsight's a bitch.

I think this guy is absolutely biased toward Windows.

Why not keep an open-mind on Linux, it is NOT difficult to use and with version like Ubuntu. It simplfy the UI and work flow a lot.

I use both Windows and Linux and both have their good. Though Vista definitely is very bad in performance, and in no way I see it working in this new "netbook" category, it will probably take up 4 GB which is the size of the SSD.

Just speaking from my own anecdotal evidence, I really have to doubt this guy's analysis. The only people I personally know who have bought an eeePC have been three or four ladies (my wife included), and a couple of absolute non-techies. None of them knew a thing about Linux before they bought their eeePC, although in the case of two of the ladies, at least (again, my wife included), they have taken the time to go online, and learn a bit about Linux, the command line, and how to deal with the behind-the-scenes of their computers--not because they had to, but because they _wanted_ to--and, again, neither of them is particularly technically-minded--both are very busy mothers, involved in many activities--but they both wanted to grow themselves. That said, they, and the others I personally know, are all using their e's with the out-of-the-box system, and using them for what they were intended--web and simple document work, and play. Every one of them is satisfied with their eeePCs, and wouldn't trade them for something else (in fact, I've been trying to convince my wife to sell me hers! I just want to "geek it out" but she won't let me!).

That is just my anecdotal evidence, but, browsing the forums at eeeuser.org, I see lots of neophytes there, who are not geeks, and in particular, not unix/Linux geeks.
