Amazon Adds Dedicated Slate Page, Acknowledges Tablet Takeover

Amazon has prepared for the rise of tablets with a shopping page dedicated to the new computing category. Many Q3 industry reports told the tale of slouching notebook and netbook sales that would continue to sink into 2011. The culprit? Those darn upstart tablets, namely the iPad.

You won’t find Apple’s hit device on Amazon’s tablet shopping page right now, but you will find a few Android slates, some at the mark-downed price points common to Amazon.

There’s the ViewSonic ViewPad 7, a 7-inch slate running Android OS 2.2, that sells for $429  ($30 bucks less than price mentioned in our full review).  There’s also the eLocity A7, another 7-inch tablet with Android OS 2.2 that has been on sale at Amazon for $369 since we first covered the device in September. And of course, Amazon offers the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the most popular (and functional) of the 7-inch Android competitors to the iPad. The T-Mobile and AT&T flavors are available for a respective $599 and $646.

Peruse all of Amazon’s tablet offerings at the retailer’s site.
