Alltel today officially announced that it would be carrying LG Electronic’s latest slider-touch phone, the LG Glimmer. At first glance, the phone reminds us a lot of Verizon Wireless’ similar touch-slider, the LG Venus. The Glimmer’s metal shell houses a 2MP camera, a standard slide-out keyboard and GPS capabilities. Software features include Alltel’s location based services like Navigation, Axcess Search and even over-the-air TV broadcasts through Axcess TV. It also supports Voice2TXT, a feature Alltel just announced that converts voicemails to text messages. It’s like the poor-man’s visual voicemail. While it has 128MB of onboard storage, we suggest adding a microSD card to really take advantage of its music and video capabilities. At $249.99 after a $100 mail-in-rebate it’s a bit more than the Venus, which costs $199.99 with a 2-year contract after a $50.00 online rebate.
