This time last year Intel’s ULV processors were supposed to set the world on fire, promising thin and light designs along with all-day battery life. Too bad consumers didn’t care. As it turns out, notebook shoppers aren’t willing to skimp on performance in exchange for a machine that’s easier to carry and has more endurance–especially if it has a larger screen. They want the best of both worlds, which is what Acer is attemping to deliver with its revamped TimelineX Series. The 13.3-inch Aspire Timeline 3820T, 14-inch 4820T, and the 15.6-inch 5820T all have either full-voltage Core i3 or Core i5 processors under the hood. The only exception is the 11-inch 1830t, which features a ULV Core i3 or Core i5 CPU.
Both the 4.7-pound 4820T and 5.5-pound 5820T start at $749 and sport integrated optical drives and Media Controls to open programs and (you guessed it) control media. Want to game on the side? The 14-inch 4820TG (starting at $799) has a switchable ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 GPU and a PowerSmart button that extends battery life. The sub-four pound 3820T starts at $729, while the 3.1-pound 1830t starts at $599 and inclues a full-size keyboard. All of these models include Dolby sound technology and Acer’s Backup Manager software.
