Acer Announces Pricing, Availability for 11.6-inch Aspire One AO751h
May 18th, 2009 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief
We’ve already brought your our initial hands-on impressions of the world’s first 11.6-inch netbook, but now Acer has made the pricing and final specs official for its 2.8-pound Aspire One A0751h (starting at $349). The leading netbook maker has also announced pricing for its thinner and lighter 10-incher, the 2.4-pound Aspire One A0D250 (starting at $298). So what’s the big deal about another inch of screen? According to Acer, users will appreciate the extra real estate and extra pixels (1366 x 768) for having multiple windows open simultaneously and for surfing the Web with less scrolling. The other important benefit is that the A0751h has a full-size keyboard. A configuration with a 6-cell battery (good enough for 8 hours of battery life) will sell for $379. That’s a good price given the system’s relatively large screen size–and that it’s only an inch thin. Read on for more details and full specs for both machines.
Features that apply to both the 11-inch and 10-inch model include your choice of colors (Diamond Black, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, and Seashell White), a multi-gesture touchpad, Crystal Eye webcam, and a soft-touch palm rest for a more comfy typing experience. Stay tuned for full reviews of both netbooks. The 751h seems very attractive, assuming an 1.6GHz or more version is available for a reasonable price. Not interested in that 1.2GHz version they mention here. Also, doesn’t seem to be available yet.
I personally would prefer the extra screen resolution vs. the 1024×600 on typical netbooks, which just doesn’t have enough vertical resolution especially for web browsing. The x768 should help quite a bit.
I don’t know right now whether I’d prefer a 10.2″ 720p netbook like the Dell Mini 10 or HP 2140 versions that have just recently become available, or an 11.6″. I haven’t yet seen a review (hint hint) of the 720p resolution on a 10″ screen. Obvious question–is it highly squint-worthy? If so, I’d probably want to see one of these 11-inchers in the flesh. I take my 9″ Dell Mini 9 places I wouldn’t take a regular laptop, and part of the reason is the size. I just wouldn’t want something that is that physically big. Don’t know if 11.6″ crosses that threshold or not yet.

I’ve been trying to track that down too.
A May 1 Endgadget item mentioned it would hit European stores later this month, but said Acer hadn’t given a U.S. release date yet.

Oh, there’s a May 20 mention at Crunchgear (http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/05/20/is-acers-116-inch-netbook-being-recalled/) that apparently there was a marketing goof with some incorrect stickers on some of the 11.6″ model’s boxes that resulted in Acer pulling it from some Wal-Marts that had the 11.6″ model on display.
“UPDATE: Here’s the word, directly from Acer:
It’s not a recall, per se – there’s an incorrect marketing sticker on some of the boxes. Acer is remedying this – the products will be back on shelves next week.”
============================
So they should be in U.S. stores about now, but if they’re not, they might still be fixing the sticker problem.

I bought one at WalMart for$398.00. It has 2GB Ram and 250GB HDD Windows Vista Home and the Atom 260 processor. I absolutely love it. Salesman at W-m said they would no longer carry them when current supply is gone. Don’t know why.
