Amazon’s first tablet combines a refreshing user interface with an aggressive price of $199. The 7-inch color touchscreen slate weighs a scant 14.6 ounces and provides access to Amazon’s videos and TV shows, books, music, and app stores. Although the Fire runs Android Gingerbread, Amazon brings its own carousel-style interface to the table, and it’s a breeze to flip through. The Fire offers blazing-fast web browsing, thanks to a new Silk browser that splits duties between Amazon’s servers and the device’s dual-core processor.
