5 Essential Tips Every Barnes & Noble Nook Owner Should Know

Lend books to friends.

Currently the Nook is the only eReader that will allow users to lend DRM eBooks to other people, but only those with a Barnes & Noble account and for books with this feature enabled (about half the catalog). And now you can use the LendMe feature on the apps for the iPad, iPhone, and Android devices in addition to the Nook. The lending period lasts for 14 days, then the book automatically reverts back to the owner. There’s one catch, though: You can lend a book only once, and you can’t send it to a second friend or re-lend it again. So choose who you lend to carefully.

  • Highlight the book you want to lend from inside your library, then select “View item details & options”.
  • If the book is lendable, you’ll see an option to lend on the list.
  • Select an existing friend/contact on your list or enter the e-mail address of the person you’re lending to. If that person has an existing Barnes & Noble/Nook account, use that e-mail address. If they don’t, the bookseller will prompt them to create an account in order to read the book.
  • Tap Submit > Confirm to send the LendMe request to your contact. The recipient has seven days to accept the book.
  • After the 14-day loan period is over, or after the offer expires in seven days, the book will become available in your library again automatically.

I think your a little confused about what your writing about.

Currently most of the public libraries are using the Overdrive system for their ebook library offerings and depending on the book its available in the PDF or Epub formats. Epub is an old international standard while the PDF files are only readable through Adobe’s Digital Editions software.

Currently Overdrive is working or already has apps for the Ipad, but I doubt you will see that function on the Kindle any time soon.

I’m pretty sure Overdrive has a Ipad app though.

Very few books are lendable and most of them are available on the net in many formats for free.

I really like the idea of digital books, but I do not like how the publishing industry is forcing it to go forward.

Not really interested in books I can’t lend or pass on for a dollar or two when I’m done with them.

Working on an article with a solution for this problem but I doubt the publishers will go for it.

I think you may be confused, or maybe your library uses Overdrive only. My library, and all of the libraries in my major metropolitan city, use Overdrive exclusively for audiobooks and movies. Adobe Digital Editions is the program they use for eBooks. ADE is also the program I use to load library epubs and pdfs on to my Nook. Kindle and Nook both have apps for the iPad, and I believe the Nook app can load library books as well. According to Overdrive’s website their iPad/iPhone app is for audio only. I have over 300 books purchased from B&N on my Nook and at least 1/3 of them are available for LendMe. I have only paid for about 50 of those books.
