4G iPhone Rumored For Spring: OLED Screen, Speedy CPU, and Replaceable Battery
January 12th, 2010 by Avram Piltch, LAPTOP Online Editorial Director
We wouldn’t be surprised if Apple leaked this one today just to one-up Google. The Korea Times reported today that leading carrier KT, which currently sells the iPhone in Korea, could be releasing a 4G iPhone in the country as soon as April. Apparently, the phones would be provided to larger corporate clients in April, with a general roll-out set to happen in June.
Apple has not announced a fourth-generation iPhone yet, but a June timeframe fits with Curpertino’s traditional release schedule. In addition to 4G network connections, the new iPhone is rumored to have an OLED screen, video chat (presumably via a front-facing camera), a dual-core CPU and “powerful graphics chips.” Even more radical from an Apple perspective, the Korea Times says “removable battery is highly likely.” Considering Apple’s long-time opposition to user-replaceable batteries, this might be the biggest rumor of all.
Of course, Apple isn’t talking about new iPhone releases and the company doesn’t release roadmaps to the press. We’re betting that either this was a deliberate leak or someone at KT is about to get a pink slip. Either way, if there’s any truth to this rumor, Apple would be upping the ante once again in the smart phone race.

Oh boy! I am really excited about this new iPhone. I have always been in love with the multi-touch feature of the iPhone and can’t wait to check the features on the new iPhone 4G!
I hope it is not too expensive though.

As others have pointed out–a replaceable battery? Not a chance. Early access to corporate clients? Also not going to happen. I’m not saying there isn’t a 4th gen iPhone coming next week, but I wouldn’t give much credence to this rumor. Sounds kind of unlikely.
I would *love* to see an OLED screen. 720p video playback. Wifi sync. FM radio. 4G data support. Verizon compatibility. Multitasking. Improved radios. 802.11n. HDMI output from a dock. A multimedia dock like the one for the Droid. An updated Google Maps application with free GPS. Better battery life. eBooks in the iTunes store.
We’ll just ahve to wait and see.
